Objectives of the AESS 2025 Awards

At the Spanish Self Storage Association (AESS), we are committed to the continuous improvement of our sector. That’s why we are proud to present the AESS 2025 Awards, a recognition of the excellence and efforts of operators and providers who elevate the quality of our services.

These awards aim to highlight best practices, foster innovation, and strengthen the professionalization of the sector. We will honor those who have made a difference, inspiring others to reach new standards of quality and customer care.

Additionally, the awards will serve as a key tool to enhance the brand of AESS and its associated operators. By showcasing the winners, we spotlight the work of those who make selfstorage a successful model in Spain.

The awards ceremony will take place during the 17th AESS Self Storage Conference and Trade Show, creating an engaging and dynamic atmosphere. This event will provide a unique opportunity to connect, share experiences, and celebrate the sector’s achievements.

Best Customer Experience (In-Person and Online) Award

Objective of the Award

To recognize the company that has achieved an exceptional customer experience, excelling in satisfaction, innovation in service, and outstanding customer care both in direct interactions and through its digital services.

Criteria for Evaluation by the Professional Jury

1.- Customer Satisfaction (30%)

  • Results from satisfaction surveys or reviews.
  • Customer retention and loyalty metrics.

2.- Innovation in Customer Care (20%)

  • Use of digital tools to streamline reservations, payments, inquiries, etc
  • Unique services that enhance the customer experience.

3.- Accessibility andUsability (20%)

  • Clarity and ease of navigation on the website and/or app.
  • Inclusivity in physical facilities (e.g., ramps, signage).

4.- ProblemResolution (15%)

  • Average response time and effectiveness in addressing issues or inquiries.
  • Concrete examples of successful problem management.

5.- Quality of Environment (15%)

  • Cleanliness, maintenance, and aesthetics of the facilities.

Composition of the Professional Jury

The professional jury is being formed with a focus on professional reputation, impartiality, and diversity. The jury willinclude:

  1. A specialist in customer experience.
  2. A representative from the self storage sector.
  3. A representative from a professional association related to customer experience.
  4. An academic researcher.

Required Documentation

Brief Report (maximum 2 pages):  

  • Description of the actions and policies implemented to enhance the customer experience.
  • Successmetrics (e.g., Net Promoter Score, satisfactionsurveys, successstories, etc.).
  • Customer testimonials.

Additional Materials

  • Photographs or videos showcasing the facility or services provided
  • Screenshots of customer service systems or platforms (if applicable).

Best Center Opened in 2024 AWARD

Objective of the Award

This award will recognize the selfstorage center inaugurated in 2024 that best combines design, functionality, accessibility, and contributions to the community.

Evaluation Criteria for the Professional Jury

1. –Design and Functionality (35%)

  • Architecturalinnovation.
  • Space utilization to maximize functionality.

2.- Impact on the Sector (25%)

  • Added value to the local or national market.
  • Attraction of new clients or partners.

3.- Sustainabilityand Efficiency (20%)

  • Implementation of eco-friendly measures (renewable energy, recycling, etc.)
  • Energy efficiency and waste reduction

4.- Timelinessand Budget (10%)

  • Adherence to initial project timelines and budgets.

5.- Service Quality (10%)

  • Early feedback from clients and users after the center’s opening.

Composition of the Jury

The professional jury is being assembled with a focus on expertise, impartiality, and diversity. It will include:

  1. An architect specializing in center design.
  2. A representative from the self-storage sector.
  3. An expert in technologicalinnovation.
  4. A specialist in sustainability and energy efficiency.

Required Documentation

Brief Report (maximum 2 pages):

    • Description of the center, including location, size, number of units, and services offered.
    • Unique features, such as accessibility, design, sustainability, and applied technology.
    • Impact on the community or local market.

Additional Materials 

    • Photos and floor plans of the center.

Best Innovation Award

Objective of the Award

This award recognizes the most significant advancement in technology, processes, products, or services within the selfstorage sector.

Evaluation Criteria for the Professional Jury

1.- Originality of theInnovation (30%)

  • Degree of novelty within the sector.
  • Differentiation from existing products or services.

2.- Customer Impact (25%)

  • Direct benefits for users (e.g., convenience, cost, quality).
  • Measurable results following implementation.

3.- ApplicabilityandScalability (20%)

  • Potential for adoption in other centers or markets.
  • Ease of implementation and replication.
  •  

4.- SustainabilityandSocial Impact (15%)

  • Contribution to the environment or local community.
  • Examples include biodegradable products or community support programs.
  •  

5.- EvidenceandResults (10%)

  • Concrete data supporting the innovation’s effectiveness (e.g., increased sales, improved satisfaction, cost savings).

Composition of the Jury

The professional jury is being assembled based on expertise, impartiality, and diversity. Members will include:

  1. An innovation expert.
  2. A representative from the self-storage sector.
  3. A startup specialist.
  4. An expert in customer experience and marketing.

Required Documentation

Brief Report (maximum 2 pages):

    • Description of the innovation: product, service, process, or technology implemented.
    • The problem it addresses or improvement it offers to the sector.
    • Achievedresults or impact.

Additional Materials

    • Images, videos, or demonstrations of the innovative product/service.
    • Practical examples or data supporting its success.

Scoring System

The scoring will be based on three sources:

  • Professional Jury: Up to 5 points.
  • Conference Attendees: Up to 3 points.
  • Public on Instagram and LinkedIn: Up to 2 points.

The total possible score is 10 points.

Final Scoring Formula:
Total Score = Jury Points + Attendee Points + Public Points (social media)

Professional Jury Voting (5 points total)

-Each jury member assigns a score between 1 and 5 to each candidate based on the established criteria.

– The total points assigned by all 5 jury members will be averaged to determine the final score

Example: If one jury member gives 3 points and another gives 4, the average score is 3.5.

Jury votes must be submitted by March 10th.

Congress Attendee Voting (3 points total)

Attendees vote using a digital system.

Voting closes on March 11th at 24:00.

Each attendee casts a single vote. Votes will be tallied and normalized:

    • The candidate with the most votes receives 3 points.
    • The second-most voted candidate receives 2 points.
    • The third-most voted candidate receives 1 point.
Public Voting on Social Media (2 points total)

Public voting will take place on Instagram and LinkedIn.

AESS will publish posts for each project on both platforms and provide candidates with direct links to share with their customers and team members.

Public votes are collected through likes on the posts.

    • The post with the most votes on each platform earns 2 points.
    • The second-most voted post earns 1 point.

The average of the scores from Instagram and LinkedIn will determine the final points assigned to each candidate.

Voting closes on March 11th at 24:00

Participation Requirements

Any AESS operator member or innovation provider attending the 17th AESS Self Storage Conference and Trade Show may apply for any of the award categories.

Participants must submit the following documentation:

1.- General Registration Form

  • Company name
  • Category applied for
  • Contact person: name, position, email, andphone
  • Company logo

2.- Specific Documentation by Category

  • As outlined in each award section.

3.- Graphic Documentation for Publication

Submitted projects will be published in strict order of arrival starting January 2, 2025, on the AESS website. Additionally, AESS will create posts for LinkedIn and Instagram using the information provided.
Once published on social media, no changes will be allowed. We will share all information with candidates beforehand, and once approved, it will be published in the order of approval.

  • Jury Evaluation:March 10, 2025
  • Closing of Attendee Voting: March 11, 2025, at 24:00
  • Closing of Social Media Voting (Likes): March 11, 2025, at 24:00
  • Awards Gala: March 12, 2025, during the Award Networking Dinner of the 17th AESS Self Storage Conference and Trade Show, SEEDS Restaurant
